Applied Neuromarketing-Review
Do You Control Your Users’ Perception Of Your Websites and Landing Pages?
No? Well you should. According to the CXL Institute, you should leverage the workings of the human brain to optimize user engagement in order to grow your business. Remember that we are talking sales here.
Today’s review is on the CXL Institute’s education on neuromarketing. Just to bring you to speed, I am referring to brain fundamentals. These are now very much a big part of digital marketing. This is all about user behavior, attention and perception. Understand these factors and you could be on your way to increased sales. I hope.
OK, now let’s zoom in onto the course itself. This is deep stuff. If you are in the business of conversion and optimization of content, this is the stuff to learn and understand. I must warn you though that this education material is not your normal easy walk in the part stuff.
Just from the title itself, ‘applied neuromarketing’, gives you the jitters. Yes it’s neuroscience we are on about here. If you are going to get skilled in this area you will definitely need to apply yourself.
This week, I have been sprucing up on lessons on neuromarketing, particularly in as far as controlling the user’s attention on the websites and land pages is concerned.
Applied Neuromarketing
This is a 5 lesson course at CXL Institute led by German conversion and optimization expert, André Morys. The course covers the following lessons:
- Brain Fundamentals
- Control the Attention
- Emotional Resonance
- You have only 50 ms (I covered this in one of my earlier posts here)
- Implement core principles in your process.
For the purpose of this review, I have chosen to write about ‘Control the Attention’. I found this lesson a little more friendly to understand and my level of skill as an upcoming freelance content and website conversion expert.
In addition the introduction says this is what you will learn:
- Be more effective: Understand how the signal processing in the brain works so your message really gets into the mind of your audience.
- Control perception: You can control what and how the content of your websites and landing pages will be perceived.
- Raise buying motivation: Understand the influence of emotions and fears of your audience to increase the motivation to buy of your users.
So, for someone who has their sights on being effective in order to raise buying motivation, I need to understand this corner of neuromarketing. Why? Because it’s all about user behavior, emotional resonance, attention, and perception.
So then, let’s take a close look at, ‘Control the Attention‘, which is lesson 2 in this particular course.
Control the Attention
Prior to my getting on this CXL Institute course in neuromarketing, I had a very different view and understanding of this topic. Not only that, I had webdesign knowledge and content writing and very little understanding of how to apply psychology to digital marketing.
Since getting onto CXL Institute, and specifically, the course in ‘Digital Psychology and Persuasion’, I am now much more enlightened. I can now wisely determine what must go where on websites and landing pages.
When it comes to controlling the attention on a website or even on a landing page, I had no idea. So I was rather amused when I heard this from the instructor, “You can only change the behavior of customers if you are able to control the attention and make sure the right message is perceived“.
That statement means that I have to have an idea about the user’s thinking for me to be able to control their behavior when they arrive on the website or landing page. This also means that it’s not just about putting the elements on a page in any way and anyhow. Thank you, Andre. This is huge.
Effectively, when you have some understanding of the brain fundamentals, you will get your message into your prospect’s mind. It’s all about controlling the perception of your website or landing page users. Once this happens you raise the buying motivation. The lesson is that essentially
Understand how the human brain works to leverage that knowledge into business growth.
Andre Morys CXL Institute
Essentially the lesson is that you must be the one to control the user’s attention on your website or landing page and not the people visiting it. This is the way to influence the attention of your customers and ultimately for them to take the action you are pointing them to.
One other huge lesson for me from this course is that, if I can understand how users perceive websites, I will be able to control their perception. Again before now, I had no clue about this. This has led me to research more in this area and also following up on the recommended reading material.
Do You Know What Is Relevant to Your Target Audience?
Here’s another pick-up in the lesson for this week. Is everything you are throwing at your website what your audience wants to hear? For instance, you know what message to put on your web page. But is what is there what you intended in the first place?
How about your prospects when they arrive at that web page. What is their perception? Or let alone their interpretation of the message you have put across.
How about this situation. You know what your message should say. But is that actually what your message says? And what about your customers; what is their perception and interpretation of the message they find on your web page and landing page?
There’s so much more to write and I could go on and on. But for your benefit of course it’s best to end it here. I have learned so much. My mind has been opened up to a quantum leap with regard to the skills education I have picked up in the last week.
There’s so much I took for granted about web design, conversion, and optimization. I am grateful that I stumbled upon this course. The presentation in this particular course has been easier to follow and the material is digestible.
Has it been worthwhile? Yes indeed! I would recommend the learning to anyone especially my fellow business owners who are seeking to grow their online digital presence. If not for you particularly, I would suggest as a business owner for you to invest in skills training for your team. The investment will surely pay off. Go for it and check out the CXL Institute.
